Darn, that rules out HHGTTG.

Expedition is really cool, but it is not really a novel, and all but the introduction and prologue takes place on one world.

My father really liked Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" series. He also liked "Ender's Game." I haven't actually read either of them, even though they are my books. Ender's game especially seems really popular. Basically anything by Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clark would probably fit with what you are looking for.

I read one of the "endless quest" books, "the 24 hour war." It was really cool. It is one of the "choose your own adventure" kinds of books. I don't know if you like those. It wasn't space travel, but it was Sci-fi.

Really I mostly read non-fiction, as well as books on mythological creatures, theoretical worlds, and cryptozoology. I do not read much fiction, so I really cannot be much help. Sorry.

Hmmm, let's see. You could try:

Harry Harrison: any of his Stainless steel rat books.

Larry Niven: Ringworld. Ringworld Engineers. Don't bother with Ringworld Throne. World of the Ptavv.

The foundation triliogy by Isaac Asimov. Except there are now a lot more than three books in that series.

Jack L Chalker: Midnight at the well of souls, Exile at the well of souls. Gods of the well of souls. Buy in that order.

Oh, Harry Harrison, again, Deathworld 1, 2 and 3. Homeworld, Starworld, can't remember the other one. If you want whacky sci-fi then: The technicolour timemachine, or Star smashers of the galaxy rangers.

Anise.

PS. Damn, just re-read your post a little further up and none of the books listed here are like 'Soldier'.

And with any luck, the book doesn't have some silly, dippy woman that can't act, can't stop grinning and is totally unsuited to the part of playing an intelligent pilot! Talk about poor casting there! I spotted her in a shampoo ad, and that looked just about her level, mindless bimbo!

Other than that one hiccup, the rest of the movie rocked.

the starship troopers book WAS pretty awesome. i liked the movie, but the book was better! but, the bugs are still kamikazes in it. The Pern series is good, but it is more of a fantasy than sci-fi, i think. its set on another world, in the future, but:

1) the people are very low tech, almost medieval-type lifestyle

2) it has dragons that are linked to their riders through the mind

id say more, but people would think i dont like it, and i love the series.

ive read a lot of good sci-fis, but i generally dont remember their names. "Privateer" was a good one. its about two space navy captains of different species, with the greatest ships of their kind going head to head. i wouldnt buy it though - just borrow it from a library.

ummm... the Dune series is good, but it doesnt have aliens in it. sorry i cant help you more, but i cant think of any titles.

I'd recommend Dune to anyone. The first one at any rate.

I haven't read much sci-fi beyond Star Wars, but I found the 'Dancers at the End of Time' trilogy by Michael Moorcock very good. Not really space travel as such, and more fantasy than hard sci-fi, but still a good read nonetheless.

These were going to be my suggestions... That wil teach me to join a thread like this late .

I'm sure there are books now of this TV series, so have a look around for "Space: Above and Beyond".

There's tons of Star Wars books, but I've never read any so I can't recomend them personally. The only thing I can think of would be 'The Forgotten Planet' but most of that takes place on one world. It's an excellent scifi book though. 'Interstellar Pig' is a good one too, but space travel is in it maybe like three times. I highly recomend those two, however.

I can reccomend the Warhammer 40K books following Gaunts Ghost, bloody excellent read if your even remotely interested in 40K. Make sure to read them in order though as they span several yeats of a huge crusade to liberate the Sabbat Worlds. Excellent books, ive bought and read 5 in 2 weeks.

This is what i am doing on literature lesson:

I saw it,
Strong and big
It has two blades on its wrist.
I know, its going to the east,
To our base
Where we were saved.
We were, but for now,
We ran, thats all for now...
Thats all, its holding me by my neck,
My weapon lost, I can only press the button REC
To say Good bye, my friends...
And, sudenly explosion!
somewhere in the left,
I lost my contions, but soon awoke
on someones hands
